Shine For Scott was founded in late 2010 following the death of the organization’s namesake,
Scott Walden. Scott passed away from colon cancer on June 3, 2010, eighteen months after his
initial diagnosis. He was just 40 years old. Today, in Scott’s honor, our mission is to provide
financial SUPPORT to patients; EDUCATE the public; help individuals DETECT colon cancer
through life saving screenings; and one day, CURE colorectal cancer by funding top of the line
and progressive research.
In 2012, Shine For Scott proudly donated $4400 to The Conquer Cancer Foundation’s Merit
Award program. Our donation provided four individuals, who are advancing colorectal cancer
research, with $1000 travel grants, which they will use to present their findings at the 2013
Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium in San Francisco, January 24-26, 2013. To see the
recipients of the merit awards provided by Shine For Scott, check-out the following site: http://
www.conquercancerfoundation.org/foundation-recognizes-oncology-professionals-outstanding-
research-gastrointestinal-cancers. Additionally, we provided two individuals under the age of 50
with $2250, which was applied directly to the costs of their colorectal cancer screenings. We also
increased public awareness through our Protect Your Bum in Blue event.
This year, our goal is to re-commit another $4400 to The Conquer Cancer Foundation, as well
as establish and implement an education plan that will bring awareness to those of us under 50.
Because colon cancer doesn’t care if you’re under 50!

Live, Laugh, Love ...that was Jodie’s motto. On March 26, 2013 we lost one of the brightest lights on this planet. Jodie loved the life she lived and lived the life she loved. She never met a stranger. Her smile lit up a room.
The following was written by Doug Gray of the Marshall Tucker Band and read at Jodie’s funeral. “Today the wind will continue to blow on by us as it always will. Jodie would grab the wind, the hearts and the spirit of everyone she met and always say “Let’s keep moving on!”. Where you are today, that smile will still be on your face because you are seeing your friends and embracing their love, because they miss you as much as we do and will until you have everyone together again”.
Jodie was an ambassador of music ... old and new. Join us for an evening of live music, food, cash bar, silent auction and memories shared of Jodie McNeil Gooch.
A few of the auction items include a first edition signed copy of Gregg Allman's new book "My Cross to Bear" with certificate of authenticity; a Trey Anastasio (Phish) autographed guitar with COA; a rare 2 disc CD of Duane Allman's last show (Pittsburgh, October 1971); a rare CD from May 4, 1969 at Central City Park in Macon featuring the entire band; and an excellent quality 8x10 autographed print of ABB, signed by Gregg, Dickey, Warren and Jaimoe. This is only a partial listing.
The evening begins at 7:00 p.m with our MC for the event, Rusty Edwards. Following Rusty will be the Joe Pitts Band, Sammy and the Slamrz and Davin McCoy closing the evening. All musicians will be invited onstage at the close of the show for a jam session to honor Jodie.
All proceeds to benefit the Allman Brothers Big House Museum.
